On May 6, 2025, 24-year-old Blake Hutchinson died by suicide during a police encounter in Mount Vernon, Ohio.Hutchinson was wanted on charges of murder and child endangerment in connection with the death of 6-year-old Eva Bretz in Columbus. When approached by Knox County SWAT personnel on the Heart of Ohio Trail, Hutchinson produced a firearm from his jacket pocket and took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident is under investigation, and the Columbus Homicide Unit is collecting additional information.
