OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Mario Mason, 26, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Oklahoma County Detention Center during a welfare check around 5:37 p.m. on May 12, 2025. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead at 6:46 p.m. Mason had been held at the jail since May 2024 and was convicted in April 2025 of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Randy Mills during a dispute over a vehicle. He had accepted a life sentence and was awaiting transfer to state prison. The facility’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating. All deaths are treated as homicides until the medical examiner makes a ruling.
