Police responded to reports of a man attempting to break into a public restroom around 7:30 p.m. on Oyster Point Boulevard. Officers confronted the man, who ran from the scene while carrying an object. Less-lethal rounds were fired, but police claim the man allegedly pointed the object at police, who then opened fire. The man died at the scene. The object was later confirmed to be a replica firearm. He had been unarmed. The California Department of Justice is investigating
