OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 05/15/2025, Houston Police Department officers responded to a suicide-in-progress call at an apartment complex at 9255 West Sam Houston Parkway South. A woman told officers her brother was threatening self-harm. As officers approached, the man exited with a large knife and charged at them. Officers backed away, but one officer opened fire and struck the man. He was transported to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died. HPD identified the shooter officer as N. Ruiz-Valbuena, a 23-year-old with 18 months of service.
