OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 05/16/2025, Terre Haute Police attempted to stop a vehicle for multiple traffic violations. The did not stop. Police escalated a chase through downtown before stopping near Canal Street and Margaret Avenue. The individual refused to exit the vehicle and allegedly threatened officers. The SWAT team was brought. After several hours of pressure on a man locked into a vehicle, he died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
