On 05/16/2025, at approximately 7:50 p.m., a Michigan State Police trooper from the Metro South Post conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and the Lodge Freeway (M-10) in Detroit. During the stop, the driver, a 41-year-old man from Highland Park, exited his vehicle and opened fire, striking the trooper three times—twice in the ballistic vest and once in the shoulder. The trooper returned fire, fatally wounding the individual. The trooper was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The incident is under investigation by the Detroit Police Department's homicide task force, which includes detectives from both Detroit and the Michigan State Police.
