On May 20, 2025, around 5:45 p.m., a Utah Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling over 90 mph on I-70. The driver refused to stop. Troopers escalated a pursuit, reaching speeds over 140 mph. Spike strips were deployed near the East Richfield exit and struck the front tires. The vehicle continued before losing control near milepost 43, rolling multiple times. The 63-year-old male driver was ejected and died at the scene.
