On May 16, 2025, Butler County Sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check at a residence in Clay Township, Pennsylvania, concerning 46-year-old Todd Minnear. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Minnear in a mental health crisis, and a barricade standoff began. The Butler County Emergency Services Unit — a regional tactical/SWAT team — responded, bringing armored vehicles (BearCat-type), ballistic shields, and tactical long rifles. Negotiators attempted contact while officers staged around the property using advanced surveillance tactics, including a robotic camera system staged for potential indoor reconnaissance. Tactical officers used militarized tactics to secure the perimeter and maintain visual containment, while preparing for forced entry if necessary. During these assaults, Minnear died by suicide inside the home before any direct tactical breach occurred.
