On May 21, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Plano Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a woman had been shot at a residence on Ridgewood Circle. Upon arrival, officers encountered 37-year-old Juan Jose Rivera-Robles outside the home. Rivera-Robles opened fire on the officers, prompting one officer to return fire, fatally striking him. The woman who had been shot was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured during the incident. The relationship between Rivera-Robles and the woman remains under investigation. The officer involved has been placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being conducted by the Plano Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Collin County District Attorney's Office.
