On May 21, 2025, around noon, Coon Rapids police responded to a domestic incident at a residence on the 300 block of 111th Avenue NW. A woman reported that a man, identified as 65-year-old Robert Edward Davis, had cut her with a knife. Upon arrival, officers attempted to de-escalate the situation. The woman and another man exited the home, with the woman sustaining a hand injury. Davis, still armed with a knife, refused to surrender. Officers used less-lethal measures, including 40mm launchers and a Taser, but Davis advanced toward Officer Timothy Morin, who then fired his handgun, striking Davis. Davis was transported to Mercy Hospital, where he later died. The incident is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
