OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On May 29, 2025, Greenville County Sheriff's Office deputies, working with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, attempted to apprehend 51-year-old Johnny Andrews Collins, who was on Spartanburg County’s Most Wanted list for undisclosed violent offenses. Deputies received a tip leading them to a wooded area off Cannon Road in Greer. When they approached, Collins was reportedly armed. Deputies opened fire and killed him at the scene. His body was later recovered from the woods. Five deputies involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting an independent investigation. The names of the deputies involved have not been publicly released.
