OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 16, 2025, Dawson County deputies and Gothenburg Police officers responded to a report of a man attempting to forcibly enter a woman's camper at the Blue Heron Campground in Gothenburg, Nebraska. They contacted 55-year-old Lane B. Dishman of Elwood in his camper. During the encounter, Dishman struck a Gothenburg Police officer in the head, requiring medical attention for the officer. After a taser was deployed, Dishman was taken into custody on charges including second-degree assault on a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, attempted burglary, and disturbing the peace. He was transported to the Dawson County Jail in Lexington without further incident.
On the morning of May 17, corrections staff observed Dishman experiencing labored breathing. He was transported to Lexington Regional Health Center and subsequently transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Dishman was pronounced dead on May 22. The Dawson County Sheriff's Office has requested assistance from South Central Area Law Enforcement Services (SCALES) to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. An autopsy has been ordered by the Dawson County Attorney’s Office, and the investigation is ongoing.
