OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Around 1:30 a.m., a California Highway Patrol officer attempted a traffic stop near Indiana Street and Gleason Avenue. The driver did not stop, and police escalated a chase that lasted until the vehicle, an Aston Martin registered in Irvine, crashed into a pole at Soto Street and Washington Boulevard in Boyle Heights. The driver got out and tried to run but was quickly apprehended and handcuffed. He then collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers found a safe and several packages in the car and requested a search warrant. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
