On May 29, 2025, a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a driver for not wearing a seatbelt on Remington Avenue. The driver, James Edward Roberts, 34, of Jacksonville, fled at high speed through city streets. He lost control of his Lincoln MKS, crashed into a culvert, and the vehicle overturned. Roberts was ejected and later died at Archbold Hospital. A passenger was injured. Drugs were reportedly found in the car.
