On May 29, 2025, around 10:30 p.m., Chicago police attempted to stop Nathaniel Fejerang in an alley near the 4300 block of West North Avenue in Humboldt Park. Fejerang fled on foot into a backyard. During the attempt to detain him, his firearm discharged, hitting an officer in the leg. Another officer opened fire and killed Fejerang. A gun was recovered at the scene. The injured officer was hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
