OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On May 31, 2025, San Diego police responded to a welfare check for a man making suicidal statements and blocking traffic near Coronado Avenue. The man drove away in a black sedan police escalated a chase through Ocean Beach that ended when he crashed into another vehicle near Bermuda Avenue. He exited the car and allegedly retrieved a knife. Police fired beanbags and then opened fire and killed him. A civilian in another vehicle was injured. The San Diego County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
