The incident began around 2:18 a.m. when Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Officer Jamal Cofield, who has been with the department for 11 months, attempted to initiate a traffic stop on an Infiniti sedan that exited I-95 onto Key Highway. The driver failed to stop. Police escalated a high-speed pursuit that continued onto East McComas Street, where the Infiniti lost control and collided with a support pillar beneath I-95. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. The individuals who tragically lost their lives in the June 4, 2025, crash in Baltimore have been identified as 20-year-old Gabriel Castillo and 22-year-old Ezequiel Eduardo Garcia-Chicas, both residents of Hyattsville, Maryland.
