On June 4 at approximately 2:18 a.m., MDTA Officer Jamal Cofield attempted to initiate a traffic stop on an Infiniti sedan exiting I‑95 onto Key Highway. The driver failed to stop, prompting Cofield to pursue as the vehicle transitioned onto East McComas Street at high speed. The Infiniti lost control and crashed into a support pillar beneath I‑95. Both occupants—driver Gabriel Castillo (20) and passenger Ezequiel Garcia‑Chicas (22)—were killed on impact. Cofield rendered aid at the scene. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) and the Maryland State Police Crash Team are actively investigating the fatal collision.
