On June 4, 2025, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Greenville Police Department’s Emergency Response Team during an investigation on Front Street in Hamilton. Officers deployed tear gas into the building. During the operation, a Greenville police officer shot and killed a person. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading an independent investigation. The officer has been placed on administrative duty.
