On June 4, 2025, Adam Christopher Torrens, 59, died at a Jacksonville hospital while in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Torrens was arrested on May 17 in Clay County on a violation of probation to a prior charge of domestic assault. After his arrest, he was hospitalized in Clay County and, upon transfer to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office custody on May 19, was taken directly to a Jacksonville hospital, where he remained until his death. The cause of death has not been released, and the incident is under investigation.
