OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/06/2025 at approximately 3:45 a.m., Pittsburgh police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Carpenter Lane in the Brighton Heights neighborhood. Officers assisted a 73-year-old woman in filing an emergency protection-from-abuse (PFA) order against 63-year-old Charles “Rick” Nesbitt. Around 6:00 a.m., officers returned to the residence to serve Nesbitt with the PFA, which also included an immediate eviction notice. Upon entry, Nesbitt reportedly stabbed one of the officers. A second officer then discharged his firearm, striking Nesbitt. Nesbitt was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured officer received treatment for minor stab wounds at the location and did not require hospitalization. The Allegheny County Police Department is conducting an independent investigation.
