OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On June 5, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., Mendocino County deputies responded to reports of a hitchhiker who allegedly assaulted a driver after being picked up near Hearst Willits Road. Police state that he ignored commands and assumed a fighting stance. He then disappeared into nearby bushes. Deputies used pepper spray and a Taser. After being handcuffed, he became unresponsive. Deputies administered Narcan and performed CPR. Emergency responders continued life-saving efforts for approximately 30 minutes, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
