OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On June 7, 2025, deputies responded to a 911 call regarding a man experiencing a mental health crisis, acting erratically and breaking items in the street. Officers made contact with the man’s father, who confirmed his son was in a bedroom with a knife. Deputies attempted de-escalation while standing in the hallway for five minutes. The man then emerged and immediately advanced on a deputy with the knife, tried to stab the deputy, and seized at the deputy’s firearm. A deputy discharged his weapon, striking the man multiple times. The man was rendered aid and transported to a hospital where he later died. Sheriff Mina confirmed he has reviewed body-worn camera footage, which will be released within 30 days. A formal investigation is underway by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
