At approximately 3:57 p.m. on 06/08/2025, Virginia State Police responded to a suspicious incident on Highway 903 in Bracey, Virginia. When troopers arrived, a man in a vehicle drove away, and troopers began pursuit that lasted until the driver crashed in an open field and exited the vehicle while allegedly holding a knife. A trooper opened fire and killed him. He was identified as 39-year-old Derek C. Holland of Cary, North Carolina. The investigation is ongoing and will be reviewed by the Mecklenburg County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
