On 06/08/2025 at approximately 2:02 a.m., an on-duty Maryland State Trooper from the Waterloo Barrack was parked on the left shoulder of southbound Interstate 95 north of Maryland Route 100 in Elkridge, Howard County. A Jeep Cherokee driven by 30-year-old Saidou Zanguina of Columbia, Maryland, struck the trooper’s unmarked patrol vehicle. The collision forced Zanguina’s Jeep back into active lanes of traffic, causing a five-vehicle chain reaction crash involving a GMC Sierra pickup truck, a Lincoln Aviator SUV, and a Volkswagen Passat. Zanguina was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other drivers and passengers, including the trooper, sustained injuries and were taken to area hospitals. According to family statements shared through local community groups and obituary notices, Zanguina was described as a devoted father of two young children and a respected figure in the local West African community. He worked as a delivery driver and was known for his kind spirit, dedication to helping friends and neighbors, and deep love for his family.
