OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/08/2025 at approximately 10:38 p.m., officers with the Cookeville Police Department went to a residence in the 2000 block of North Willow Avenue to serve a domestic assault warrant on Dawson McCracken. Officers encountered McCracken inside the residence and attempted negotiations. During the encounter, officers shot McCracken under undisclosed circumstances. He was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation and will submit its findings to the District Attorney General for review. Authorities have not released the names of the officers involved.
