OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

At approximately 10:38 p.m. on 06/08/2025, officers with the Cookeville Police Department responded to serve a domestic assault warrant on Dawson McCracken at a residence on the 2000 block of North Willow Avenue in Cookeville, Putnam County. Upon arrival, McCracken was armed with a handgun. Negotiations were attempted, but McCracken then allegedly drew his weapon and pointed it at officers. Officers responded by firing multiple shots, striking McCracken. He was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation; findings will be forwarded to the District Attorney General for review.
