On 06/09/2025 around 6:00 p.m., Howard County Police responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on Wilbur Court in Columbia, Maryland. Officers found a 26-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. The alleged attacker, identified as his 23-year-old brother, Micah Booker, fled the scene and was later seen standing on Oakland Mills Road armed with a large double-edged spear.
According to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division, Booker advanced toward officers while holding the weapon. Officer Michael McKee then opened fire, striking Booker. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The stabbing victim was transported to Shock Trauma in critical condition.
Family members described Micah Booker as a deeply troubled young man who had struggled for years with mental health issues. Relatives shared that he had recently become more withdrawn and had not been consistent with treatment. Loved ones emphasized that Micah was artistic, sensitive, and often expressed a strong bond with his brother despite their conflicts. Family members expressed heartbreak over the tragic outcome and asked the public to remember that he was "more than his worst moment." They are urging transparency from law enforcement and support for better mental health crisis intervention services.
The investigation remains ongoing, and Officer McKee has been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
