On May 22, 2025, Alabama State Bureau of Investigation agents responded to an armed robbery where a person had been shot. The individual believed to be responsible, 19-year-old Raymond Junior Tellis, was located in a vehicle and stopped by an SBI agent near the 2200 block of Upper Wetumpka Road. During the traffic stop, Tellis allegedly pulled out a firearm as the agent attempted to arrest him. The officer opened fire, killing Tellis. The incident is under investigation and no further details about the agent have been released.
