On the morning of 06/11/2025, Arkansas State Police and Van Buren County deputies pursued Joey Vincent Simmons II, a 23-year-old male wanted in connection with armed robberies at convenience stores in Conway and Damascus. During the chase on U.S. Highway 65, Simmons fired at a pursuing trooper. He reached speeds over 100 mph before losing control of his vehicle near Bee Branch. The car crashed into a wooded area, and Simmons was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsy.
