On June 13, 2025, a man experiencing a mental health crisis died after jumping from the WAMU-FM radio tower on American University's campus in Washington, DC. The man had climbed the 321-foot tower on June 10 and remained there for more than 60 hours while Metropolitan Police Department negotiators attempted to intervene. Despite prolonged engagement, the man jumped from the tower and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident shut down nearby roads and campus buildings for several days. His identity has not been released.
