On 06/13/2025, a man experiencing a mental health crisis died after jumping from the WAMU-FM radio tower on American University’s campus in Washington, DC. The man had climbed the 321-foot tower on June 10 and remained perched there for over 60 hours while Metropolitan Police Department negotiators attempted to persuade him to come down safely. Despite continuous engagement and use of crisis negotiation teams, the man jumped from the tower and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident led to the closure of surrounding roads and parts of American University’s campus for several days.
