OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/15/2025, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol pursued Ryan Tietsort after he carjacked a Dodge Challenger at gunpoint near Spokane Valley. The chase reached speeds up to 140 mph westward on I‑90 toward Idaho. While fleeing, Tietsort struck and injured a bystander motorcyclist near the State Line Village who died later. In Idaho, he allegedly fatally shot a Good Samaritan who attempted to intervene. Returning east into Washington, he stole another vehicle, reached around 120 mph, triggered spike strips, drove into civilian and patrol vehicles, and fired at officers. The chase ended at Trent Avenue and Pines Road when Tietsort exited the vehicle armed; law enforcement officers then shot and killed him. Spokane County Medical Examiner later confirmed his death was due to gunshot wounds to the head and neck.
