OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 06/11/2025, Stratford Police responded to a residence on Columbus Avenue after a state marshal served an eviction notice to 70-year-old John Percell. Shortly after the notice was delivered, two gunshots were heard from inside the home. Officers established a perimeter and deployed their Special Response Team (SRT), which took over tactical operations. The team used an armored vehicle to secure the front approach and deployed a surveillance drone to assess interior conditions and determine Percell’s movements. The drone revealed Percell and a dog both down inside. Negotiators attempted to establish communication, but no response was received. Following these assessments, officers forced entry into the home and found Percell deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, alongside the fatally shot dog. A .45-caliber handgun was found in the home.
