On 06/28/2025 at approximately 4:30 a.m., an Ashland Police officer responded to a crash at the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 63. The driver exited the vehicle, produced a handgun, and shot himself in front of the officer. No shots were fired by law enforcement. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting the investigation at the request of Ashland Police.
