OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

At approximately 1:30 a.m., Colorado Springs Police Department received a 911 call reporting a disturbance involving an armed male at the 100 block of East Pikes Peak Avenue. Officers from the Real-Time Crime Center reviewed surveillance footage and observed a man holding what appeared to be a firearm. At about 1:49 a.m., uniformed officers contacted the man near Pikes Peak Avenue and Tejon Street. The man turned and fled on foot, reaching toward his waistband. An officer opened fire, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered nearby. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting. The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave. Body camera footage and other materials are scheduled for release within 21 days.
