On July 2, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., an off-duty Oxford Police officer was driving northbound on Alabama Highway 21 near Iron Mountain Road in Anniston when they struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Anniston Police Department is investigating the fatal collision.
