On May 16, 2025, Michigan State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop on Stephen Mason, 41, at the Lodge Freeway exit ramp to Wyoming in Detroit. During the encounter, Mason allegedly shot a trooper, prompting the trooper to open fire and fatally shoot him. The Michigan State Police released partial dash-cam and body-camera footage. Mason’s family is demanding the release of all footage and has called for a special prosecutor to review the case.
