OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/05/2025, deputies from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle reported stolen. The vehicle was pursued onto Highway 41 toward the Santee River bridge. The driver and a passenger exited the moving vehicle and jumped from the bridge into the river. The vehicle continued and struck a patrol car. The female passenger was rescued from the river and survived. The male individual was later found deceased after drowning. Multiple agencies assisted in the search and rescue operations.
