On Thursday, July 10, 2025, around 2:12 p.m., a Wheat Ridge police officer recognized 44-year-old Duane Robert Butts, wanted on a felony warrant, near West 32nd Avenue and Youngfield Street. Police say Butts ran from a motorcycle, a struggle followed, and the officer shot him. A handgun was recovered. Butts was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. The Jefferson County CIRT is investigating. Officer identity has not been released.
