Around 10:45 p.m. on July 15, 2025, Brighton Police Department officers initiated a traffic stop for a Dodge Charger observed driving recklessly on West Grand River Avenue. The driver failed to comply and accelerated, prompting officers to escalate to a high-speed pursuit.
The chase traversed multiple residential neighborhoods, including Beaver Street, East Street, Flint Road, and Hilton Road, with speeds reported to have exceeded 70 mph at times. Officers activated emergency lights and sirens throughout the pursuit.
At one point, the Charger entered Old U.S. 23 southbound at a dangerous velocity, crossing the center line into oncoming traffic and sideswiping a vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving multiple cars. The Charger subsequently rolled over several times before coming to rest.
The sole occupant of the Dodge Charger, identified only as a male, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Other involved drivers sustained only minor injuries, with all occupants reported to have been wearing seatbelts.
