On July 17, 2025, Gastonia Police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Hickory Hollow Road. A relative inside the home informed officers that Bonham had fired a shot inside the house prior to police arrival. Officers established a perimeter and attempted negotiation for over an hour.
After extended negotiation efforts failed, Bonham exited the home armed with a rifle and immediately opened fire on responding officers. Police returned fire with multiple rounds, fatally striking him. There were no reported injuries among officers or bystanders during the shootout.
