On July 23, 2025, Michael Joseph Parker ambushed Lorain Police officers while they were parked and eating lunch in their patrol car near Missouri Avenue and Colorado Avenue. Parker opened fire using a high-powered rifle, catching officers by surprise. Officers immediately returned fire, fatally shooting Parker at the scene.
Police later searched Parker’s vehicle and discovered a cache of weapons and explosives, including multiple rifles, loaded magazines, and approximately 100 pounds of Tannerite, an explosive compound. The presence of such an arsenal suggests premeditation and a significant threat to public safety. Officers Phillip Wagner, Peter Gale, and Brent Payne were directly involved in the confrontation. All officers survived the attack.
