OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

In the early hours of July 26, 2025, around 1:00 a.m., a Scottsboro Police Department officer was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance on Ruth Street. Daniel Victor McCarn fled in a vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle until it crashed at the intersection of U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road. McCarn exited the vehicle and fired at officers, striking one officer. Officers returned fire and fatally shot McCarn. Following the crash, McCarn attempted to flee on foot, triggering a multi-agency manhunt. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) issued a Blue Alert warning the public and circulated photos of McCarn described as armed and dangerous. He was confirmed deceased at the scene. The investigation is led by ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation with assistance from multiple agencies. No officers sustained serious injuries.
