On July 21, 2025, law enforcement agencies, including the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and Chattanooga Police Department, attempted to arrest Erick Charles Roberson after his vehicle was identified by a license plate reader as being connected to an investigation. Officers located Roberson at a Circle K convenience store on Highway 58.
When officers approached to take him into custody, Roberson attempted to evade arrest by ramming his vehicle into a patrol car, escalating the confrontation. Police responded by opening fire, striking Roberson multiple times. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
