On July 15, 2025, deputies from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a series of alarming incidents in Normanna Township, including multiple arsons and reports of shots fired. Adam Clinton Wolf, 57, was identified as the man responsible for setting fire to his own residence as well as neighboring properties, severely endangering lives and property.
During the chaotic scene, Wolf reportedly fired a handgun, striking a firefighter attempting to extinguish the blazes and also firing at a responding police officer. Deputies located Wolf near the intersection of Heritage Trail and McQuade Road. Upon their approach, Wolf opened fire at the deputies, prompting them to return fire. Wolf was struck multiple times and died at the scene.
Investigators recovered a firearm and various improvised weapons at the scene, indicating Wolf was heavily armed and prepared for violent confrontation. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has taken over the investigation to independently examine the use of force and the sequence of events.
The deputies involved in the shooting—Sgt. Zachary Peterson, Deputy Charles Bennett, Deputy Matt Miranda, Deputy Forest Lunemann, and Deputy Michael Pikul—have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The incident has raised significant concern in the community due to the severity of the fires and violence involved.
