OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

At approximately 4:25 a.m., officers from Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Dubuque Police Department, and Monticello Police Department attempted a high-risk traffic stop on Highway 151 in Cascade. The driver, James Young Sherrill Jr., allegedly produced a handgun during the stop. Police opened fire and killed Sherrill at the scene. One officer, Sergeant Adam Williams, was struck in his bulletproof vest and survived. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an investigation.
