OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/21/2025, Surf City Police attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Silverado suspected of impaired driving. The driver, identified as William Shannon Coston, did not stop. A Pender County deputy initiated a pursuit that ended around 2:05 a.m. on NC-210 near Valhalla Way when the vehicle crashed. Coston was pronounced dead at the scene. Open containers were found in the vehicle. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
