On the morning of July 13, 2025, a Kentucky State Police trooper, later identified as Trooper Zachary Mills, initiated a traffic stop involving Guy House on Old Richmond Road near Jacobson Park. During the stop, House reportedly exited the vehicle and opened fire, shooting Trooper Mills in the abdomen. Despite being seriously wounded, Mills was able to call for backup, and House fled the scene.
House allegedly drove to a second location, where police say he carjacked a woman at gunpoint to steal a second vehicle. He then proceeded to Richmond Road Baptist Church on 3895 Richmond Road, arriving during a Sunday morning church service. Armed with a handgun, House reportedly entered the sanctuary and began shooting, fatally wounding two women, later identified as Beverly Gumm, 70, and Christina Combs, 50. At least four others were injured, including a child, according to multiple reports.
Police tracked the second vehicle to the church, where House was encountered inside or near the sanctuary. A confrontation occurred under unclear circumstances, and multiple Lexington Division of Police officers opened fire, killing House.
