Topeka Police, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, FBI agents, and SWAT units established a perimeter and conducted a prolonged standoff. Negotiations failed, and SWAT units breached the property, smashing multiple windows and forcing entry through doors despite reports that a rear door may have been open. Drones were deployed to monitor interior activity. The breaches caused significant structural and interior damage, including shattered glass across the yard, displaced furniture, and scattered belongings. Inside, Slaughter was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
