OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

Deputies encountered an unresponsive person lying in the roadway near Abernathy Road and Midnight Road in Inman. The individual was arrested for public disorderly conduct and pedestrian in the roadway. At the Spartanburg County Detention Center, deputies attempted to remove the individual’s handcuffs and place them in a holding cell when the person became aggressive. A deputy deployed a Taser. The individual then experienced a medical emergency, was given CPR, and was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where they later died. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting the investigation.
